Neck & Shoulder Pain? Do This...

If you’ve got neck & shoulder pain watch this video…

Did you know you take on average between 17,000 to 23,000 breaths per day AND if you’re not breathing correctly, this could lead to lower energy, neck pain, shoulder pain and even more stress.
Now I know you may be thinking, hold on, how could I possible be breathing improperly. I’ve been doing it my whole life. Well in todays video I’m going to show you how you should be breathing and a simple way to check your breathing and correct it if necessary.

I’ll also show you how to make this a simple part of you day.

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Dr. Adam Arnold from Be Amazing Chiropractic in Marsden Park. And for the past 25 years, I’ve been able to help over 15,000 people become healthier with natural chiropractic care. And in todays video I’ll be showing you a simple home tip to shoulder and neck pain and a way to feel calmer and have more energy.

To help me, I have Timothy from Strive Fitness here to help demonstrate the exercises.

So first lets show you the improper way of breathing. This is a simple test you can do at home. So Timothy, put your hand on your chest and your other hand on your diaphragm.
When Timothy breathes, pay attention to where the air goes - does it go into his chest or his stomach and which hand moves more.

Ok Timothy go ahead.

Now you can see he filled most of the air in his chest and when we do this, his shoulders raise. So remember, if you’re doing this 17,000 to 23,000 times a day, can you now see how this could cause tightness in your neck and shoulders.

Ok so now how does he want to correct. This.
We need to retrain the body to understand we want to push air into the diaphragm.
So let’s prepare the body for this.
Timothy, I want you to really push your belly out like you’re pregnant.
Great, now relax.
Now lets do that again, only this time I want you to push air into this part of your belly to make the belly go out.

Sometimes you might need to do the belly push out a few times.

Ok, now Timothy take another deep breath in and notice his lower hand now does all the movement.

The benefit of breathing like this will not only relax your shoulders and neck, it will also help you bring in ⅓ more oxygen into your body which means you’ll have more energy. And you’ll be more relaxed.

Now you want to start to develop this as a habit, so for example, if you’re driving to work, on the bus or train is a perfect time to practice doing this. Incorporate this into your shower routine, while your working or while your doing house chores.

And anytime you feel a bit of stress or anxiety, remember to do this too.
