The Technology
GaitScan: Seeing the Invisible Imbalances in Your Feet
The GaitScan system uses a specialised pressure plate with thousands of sensors to measure the forces your feet generate as you walk and stand. In milliseconds, it captures a detailed picture of how your weight is distributed, how your arches are functioning, and where your foot mechanics may be breaking down.
Most foot imbalances are completely invisible to the naked eye — and entirely undetected by standard footwear or generic insoles. The GaitScan makes the invisible visible, giving Dr. Arnold precise, objective data about exactly what’s happening with your feet.
This data drives the creation of your Footlevelers custom orthotics — individually crafted supports that correct your specific imbalances and help restore proper alignment from the ground up.
What GaitScan Measures
- Weight distribution across the foot
- Arch height and function (all 3 arches)
- Pronation and supination patterns
- Pressure peak points and timing
- Gait cycle analysis
- Left-right asymmetries
Why Feet Matter
The Foundation Determines Everything Above It
Imagine building a house on a tilted foundation. No matter how well you construct the walls, they’ll always be off. Your body works the same way. When your feet lose their three-arch support system, every structure above must compensate.
This is why patients with chronic lower back pain, hip pain, or knee pain often see dramatic improvements once their foot mechanics are addressed — even when they didn’t realise their feet were the source of the problem.
Footlevelers orthotics support all three arches of your foot — the medial longitudinal, lateral longitudinal, and transverse arches — restoring the structural integrity your body depends on.

YOUR JOURNEY
From Scan to Custom Orthotic — Step by Step
The process is simple, quick, and completely painless. Here’s what to expect.
STEP 1
GaitScan Assessment
You walk across the GaitScan pressure plate. The system captures thousands of data points as you move, building a precise map of your foot mechanics and gait pattern.
STEP 2
Report Review with Dr. Arnold
Dr. Arnold reviews your scan results with you, explaining exactly what the data shows, which imbalances are present, and how they may be contributing to your symptoms.
STEP 3
Custom Orthotic Prescription
Using your scan data, a custom Footlevelers orthotic is prescribed and fabricated specifically for your feet and your biomechanical needs.
STEP 4
Fitting & Adjustment
Your orthotics are fitted and any fine-tuning is made. Dr. Arnold provides guidance on breaking them in and integrating them into your daily footwear.
Why Custom Matters
Footlevelers vs Chemist Insoles

GaitScan & Orthotics - FAQs
Everything you want to know before booking your scan.
What is a GaitScan and what does it show?
A GaitScan uses a computerised pressure plate to capture thousands of data points as you walk and stand. It produces a detailed analysis of your foot pressure distribution, arch function, pronation/supination patterns, and gait timing — making imbalances visible that are otherwise undetectable.
What are Footlevelers orthotics?
Footlevelers are premium custom-made functional orthotics that support all three arches of your foot. They are individually fabricated from your GaitScan data and designed to correct your specific foot mechanics, support your kinetic chain, and reduce stress on your joints and spine.
Can foot problems really cause back and knee pain?
Absolutely. Your feet are the foundation of your entire body. Even subtle foot imbalances create a ripple effect up the kinetic chain — affecting your ankles, knees, hips, pelvis, and spine. Many patients with chronic back and knee pain see significant improvement once their foot mechanics are corrected.
Who should consider a GaitScan?
Anyone with foot pain, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, hip pain, or lower back pain. Also highly recommended for athletes, people who stand for long hours, and anyone wanting to optimise their posture and biomechanics.
How long do Footlevelers last?
With normal use, Footlevelers custom orthotics typically last between 2 and 5 years, depending on your activity level and the types of shoes you wear. Dr. Arnold can assess when your orthotics should be updated.
Can I use Footlevelers in any shoes?
Footlevelers are available in a range of styles designed for different footwear, including running shoes, dress shoes, casual shoes, and work boots. Dr. Arnold will help you determine the best style for your lifestyle.
