Children’s Chiropractic Care in Charlestown
Gentle, Age-Appropriate Assessment

From infancy through the teenage years, children’s bodies change quickly. Dr. Adam Arnold (Chiropractor), a primary care chiropractor, provides age-adapted assessment focused on musculoskeletal function, movement, posture and comfort. Parents receive a clear explanation of findings and suitable care options. If the history or examination indicates that medical or other professional assessment is needed, we will refer your child to a GP or another appropriate health professional.

Daily Activities and Your Child’s Musculoskeletal Health

Understanding Growing Bodies

Growing Bodies Face Different Physical Demands

Posture, movement, everyday activities and growth can all affect how a child moves and feels. These factors do not automatically indicate a problem; assessment is based on the child’s history, symptoms and age-appropriate examination.

Children can experience musculoskeletal strain from growth, sport, prolonged sitting, screen use, school bags and everyday activity. An assessment considers movement, posture, spinal and joint function, muscle function and the child’s individual symptoms. Findings are explained clearly. If a concern falls outside chiropractic scope, we will refer your child to a GP or another appropriate health professional.

Every child’s presentation is different. Recommendations are based on the history and examination findings rather than on age or symptoms alone. Where chiropractic care is appropriate, goals focus on the child’s identified musculoskeletal concern and are reviewed over time.

Every Stage of Childhood

Care Tailored to Your Child's Age and Needs

Dr. Arnold’s techniques are always carefully adapted to the age, size, and developmental stage of each child. Chiropractic looks very different for a newborn than it does for a teenager.

Newborns & Infants

An infant visit begins with a health history and age-adapted musculoskeletal assessment. To explain the light pressure used in some techniques, I compare it to the pressure used to check a ripe tomato. This describes the gentle touch; before any care, I explain the specific proposed technique, its possible risks and alternatives. The proposed options, relevant evidence, possible risks and alternatives, including no care, are explained before care. I obtain informed parent or guardian consent and refer when needed. For children under two, I follow the Board’s strong advice against spinal manipulation. The approach is discussed with the parent or guardian before any care.

Information for Parents Searching by Symptom

Parents often search by a symptom or concern before they know which health professional is appropriate. The pages below explain common presentations, important warning signs, what an age-appropriate assessment may involve, and when GP or specialist referral should be considered. Inclusion here does not mean chiropractic is a treatment for every listed condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Care for children is modified for their age, size, development and clinical presentation. Before any care is provided, Dr Adam explains the assessment findings, proposed technique, alternatives and relevant risks so parents can make an informed decision.

A healthy-looking child does not automatically need chiropractic care. Parents may consider an assessment if they have concerns about movement, posture or musculoskeletal comfort. The purpose is to understand the presentation, identify relevant findings and determine whether chiropractic care, monitoring or referral is the most appropriate next step.

Care is modified for the child’s age, size and presentation. Dr Adam explains the proposed technique, alternatives and relevant risks, and checks the child’s comfort throughout. Parents can ask questions and may decline or stop care at any time.

Children may be assessed for musculoskeletal concerns such as back or neck discomfort, posture- or movement-related symptoms and some sport- or activity-related complaints. Chiropractic is not promoted here as a treatment for colic, reflux, ear infections, bedwetting, immune conditions, behavioural concerns or developmental disorders. Those concerns require appropriate medical or allied-health assessment.

Consider arranging an assessment if your child reports back, neck or joint discomfort, has difficulty with particular movements, develops posture-related discomfort, or has a musculoskeletal concern associated with sport or daily activity. If the history or examination identifies a persistent, unexplained or non-musculoskeletal concern, we will refer your child to a GP or another appropriate health professional. Urgent symptoms require immediate medical care rather than waiting for a chiropractic appointment.
